Beijing, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) --Wetlands, known as the "kidneys of the Earth," can help safeguard biodiversity and cope with climate change.
Over the past decade, China has made relentless efforts in wetlands protection and restoration and witnessed remarkable progress.
China's wetlands conservation efforts are seen to have mirrored its commitment to ensuring harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
From coastal to inland areas, from plains to plateaus and mountainous areas, wetlands in China are shielded under a system for sustainable protection and restoration that incorporates laws and regulations, investigation and monitoring systems.
From 2012 to 2021, China created and restored more than 800,000 hectares of wetlands, with the central government allocating 16.9 billion yuan (about 2.35 billion U.S. dollars) for wetland conservation.
