AMMAN, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- As China downgraded its management of COVID-19 and lifted restrictions on overseas trips, more countries are looking forward to the return of Chinese tourists.
In the Irbid governorate of Jordan, Ziad Ghnimat, the director of the local department of antiquities, expressed his hopes that more Chinese tourists will come for a visit.
Jordan is known for its archaeological and tourist sites.
One such site, the ancient city of Umm Qais, was selected by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as one of the "Best Tourism Villages of 2022" for its picturesque scenery and rich historical and cultural heritage.
The tourism industry is a pillar of Jordan's economy that witnessed a recovery in 2022.
Jordan's tourism revenues increased by 110.5 percent to reach 5.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2022, according to the Jordan News Agency.
