LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Police have responded to reports of a shooting that resulted in multiple casualties in Monterey Park in Southern California on Saturday night, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Few details are available, including the number of people shot. Internal police communications said there had been some fatalities, the report said, citing a law enforcement source.
According to the report, the shooting occurred sometime after 10 p.m. local time Saturday (0600 GMT Sunday) near the site of a Chinese Lunar New Year celebration.
Tens of thousands of people gathered on Saturday for the start of Lunar New Year festivities, one of the largest events in the region.
The injured were taken to multiple hospitals in the area, said the report. It was unclear whether a suspect was in custody. ■
