Dutch Leerdam unstoppable at ISU Speed Skating World Cup

Jutta Leerdam won her fifth women's 1,000m gold in her fifth race this season on the last day of the ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Poland, which saw Dutch skaters taking three golds from four events.

WARSAW, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Dutch Jutta Leerdam won the women's 1,000m race at the ISU Speed Skating World Cup in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland on Sunday.

The 24-year-old, who took a silver medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics, crossed the line in 1:14.94, followed by the United States' Kimi Goetz in 1:15.54 and Japan's Miho Takagi in 1:15.67.

China's Han Mei clocked 1:17.68, which allowed her to get the 11th position and earn 30 points in the general standings.

The men's 1,000m race turned out to be a show of Dutch skaters as Wesly Dijs won the gold in 1:08:52 to set a new track record and Hein Otterspeer stood on the lowest podium in 1:08.72. American Jordan Stolz grabbed a silver with 1:08.64.

Japanese Momoka Horikawa won the women's mass start in 8:58.39 ahead of Canadians Valerie Maltais with a time of 8:58.56 and Ivanie Blondin in 9:03.51. China's Chen Aoyu finished 13th with a result of 9:04.40.

In the men's mass start it was Dutch Bart Hoolwerf who stood on the highest podium in 8:19.32. South Korea's Chung Jae-won was second with 8:19.40 while Andrea Giovannini earned a bronze medal for Italy.
