XIJI, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- In the Xihaigu area, which was long deemed "uninhabitable" until recent years, several agricultural machines were flattening the surface of the terraced fields to construct high-standard farmland in Xiji County, northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. This year, the county plans to build 250,000 mu (about 16,667 hectares) of high-standard farmland, which is part of Ningxia's plan of building 937,000 mu of high-standard farmland. By the end of 2022, Ningxia had built 9,700,000 mu of high-standard farmland, more than half of the region's arable land.
