DAMASCUS, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. sanctions have made many Syrians suffer especially after the massive earthquake that hit the country earlier this week. "This is a moment in which everybody must make very clear that no sanctions of any kind interfere with relief to the population of Syria in the present moment," said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The death toll from Monday's devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria has surpassed 21,000.
In Syria, 1,678 people were killed in government-held areas, and the death toll in the opposition-held region stood at 2,190.
Guterres on Thursday announced that the world body will launch a flash appeal for donor support for those affected by the earthquake in Syria.
