ANKARA, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Rescue operations were intensified in the regions in Türkiye that were hit on Monday by two massive earthquakes which have so far killed over 17,000 people as of Thursday.
Sniffer dogs have been widely used by search and rescue teams to look for survivors buried under the rubbles of collapsed buildings in the quake-hit regions. Such trained animals have proven to be very effective in detecting the trapped victims as they can sniff the smell of humans and help save more lives during quake rescue missions.
