BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- China's National Meteorological Center on Tuesday evening renewed a blue alert for rainstorms in multiple regions of the country.

From 8 p.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday, heavy rains or rainstorms are expected in parts of Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi, Guizhou, Chongqing, Sichuan, Yunnan, Tibet and Jilin. And heavy downpours of up to 150 millimeters could lash some areas of Jiangxi, Fujian and Guizhou, according to the meteorological center.

Some parts of these regions will also experience short-term heavy rainfall, with hourly precipitation that could surpass 60 millimeters, accompanied by thunderstorms and gales.

The center has advised local governments to make appropriate preparations and inspect drainage systems in cities, farmlands and fishponds.

Schools and kindergartens should ensure the safety of pupils, and drivers should remain alert for road waterlogging and traffic jams, it said.

China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
